PROGGRAMES OFFERED

The following courses are offered by the School:
  • Ordinary Diploma in Librarianship
  • Ordinary Diploma in Records Management and Archives Administration
  • Certificate in Library Studies
  • Elementary Library Training


    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    Diploma Course In order to be admitted a candidate must have the following qualification:
    • Advanced certificate of secondary education with two principal passes or its equivalent
    • Form IV graduates with a minimum of three credit passes and either with a certificate in library studies certificate in records management or certificate in Archival administration
    • Other qualifications as may be accepted by SLADS governing council

    Certificate Course
    In order to be admitted a candidate must have the following qualification
    • Ordinary certificate of secondary education with three credit passes
    • Other qualifications as may be accepted by SLADS governing council

    AWARDS
  • Diploma in Librarianship and Information Studies
  • Diploma in Records Management and Archives Administration
  • Certificate in Library Studies

    APPLICATION FORMS
Application forms can be obtained from the office of Academic, or they will be sent directly to the applicant upon request, but only where the applicant meets the required admission qualifications. Application forms can also be downloaded online by clicking HERE
The duly filled forms must reach the academic Officer not later than the date indicated on the advertisement calling for applications for the particular admission season. Only applicants who meet the required minimum entry qualifications into the school should submit application forms. Forms from applicants who do not meet the minimum entry qualifications will not be processed and the admission fee if paid will be forfeited.

SLADS LOGO

School of Library Achives and Documentation Studies

The School of Library Archives and Documentation Studies (SLADS) was founded in 1989 and is run by the Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB). Before the establishment of the school, TLSB was running basic library training at certificate level since 1972 at its Headquarters in Dar es Salaam. This course was merged with SLADS in 1990. SLADS is currently based at Ukuni about four kilometers from Bagamoyo a historical coastal tow which is situated, about 72 kilometers North of Dar es Salaam. SLADS is registered with the National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE)

VISION To be a competence-based training Institution for librarians, records managers, archives administrators and information specialists in Tanzania.

MISSIONTo promote Library and Information Science Education through Training and Research.

EDUCATIONAL MOTTOTraining for quality, competence and efficiency

OBJECTIVES
  • To offer training courses in Librarianship, Records Management, Archives administration and Documentation studies at certificate and diploma Levels.
  • Provide for Continuing education for Librarians, records managers, archives administrators
    and Information specialists in Tanzania
  • Promote and conduct research in librarianship, information management, records management and archive administration
  • Publish learning materials in librarianship, records management, and archives administration
  • Offer consultancy services in planning, establishment and development of library, archives, records and information centers
